The Perfect Setup
It was supposed to be just another Saturday—Destiny thought she was going to watch Tai play in a friendly neighborhood basketball game at Breen Park, something he did often. The sun was shining, music played through portable speakers, and the sidelines were filled with family and friends enjoying the summer air. Destiny didn't think twice about the unusually large crowd. What she didn't know was that many of those faces—smiling behind sunglasses and holding up phones—were actually her closest friends and family, secretly flown in from out of town for what would become one of the most unforgettable moments of her life.
Tai had spent months planning every detail—not just of the proposal, but the perfect date. A lifelong fan of Kobe Bryant, Tai chose August 24, 2024 (8/24/24) to honor the basketball legend's legacy. To him, Kobe wasn't just a player—he was the embodiment of loyalty, love, and the Mamba Mentality. Midway through the game, as laughter filled the court and kids played on the nearby swings, Tai suddenly collapsed, clutching his leg. The game stopped. People froze. Destiny, instantly concerned, dropped everything and ran across the court to him.
She knelt beside him, panic in her voice. "Tai, are you okay?!"
But instead of pain, she saw a familiar smirk spreading across his face. Before she could say more, Tai shifted to one knee—this time intentionally—and pulled a small red velvet box from his shorts pocket.
Gasps and cheers rippled through the crowd as Destiny looked up, stunned. She started recognizing the faces in the crowd—her mom, dad, close family, her best friends—standing behind picnic tables and trees, all there to witness this moment.
